Anyone who will be operating a boat powered by a motor greater than 10 horsepower or a personal watercraft needs boater education in Oregon.

Students taking the Oregon course may be required to provide:

Oregon courses expire after 90 days.

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Boaterexam: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited quiz attempts. The final exam includes 75 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have 2 attempts or must retake the course.
Boat-Ed: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. The final exam includes 75 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have 2 attempts or must retake the course.
Ilearntoboat: The final exam includes 75 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have 2 attempts or must retake the course.
After completing the course
After completing an Oregon course, students can immediately print their temporary certificate.
The physical card is sent by the state and typically arrives within 30 days.
Age and operator requirements
Youths 11 years old and under are not allowed to operate a motorboat.
Students must be 12 years old or older to get a boating education card.
Youths 12 to 15 years old may operate a boat of more than 10 horsepower only if accompanied by a person 16 years old or older who has a boating education card.
For personal watercraft, the accompanying person must be 18 years old or older and have a boating education card.
Youths 12 to 15 years old may operate a boat of 10 horsepower or less without an adult.
Anyone 16 years old or older needs a boating education card to operate a powerboat, including a personal watercraft, greater than 10 horsepower.
Replacement cards
Replacement cards are handled by the Oregon State Marine Board.
