Vermont law requires all motorized boat and personal watercraft operators born after January 1, 1974, to pass a boater safety course and carry a boater education card.

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Boat-Ed: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the chapter. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Ilearntoboat: The final exam includes 60 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
After completing the course
After completing a Vermont course, students can immediately print their permanent certificate.
Nothing is mailed.
Age and operator requirements
No one under 10 years old may receive a Vermont boating safety certificate.
Students under 12 years old must take an in-person boating safety course.
