All boaters between 12 and 17 years old must have a Utah Boater Education Certificate to operate a personal watercraft.

Registration requirements
Students taking the Utah course may be required to provide:

Utah courses expire after 90 days.

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Boaterexam: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the chapter. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Boat-Ed: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
After completing the course
After completing a Utah course, students can immediately print their temporary certificate.
The physical card is sent by the state and typically arrives in 7-10 days.
Age and operator requirements
Persons 12 to 15 years old may operate a personal watercraft only if they:
- Have completed a boating education course approved by Utah State Parks
- Have their course certificate in their possession
- Are under the direct supervision of a responsible person who is at least 18 years old
Persons 16 to 17 years old may operate a personal watercraft only if they:
- Have completed a boating education course approved by Utah State Parks
- Have their course certificate in their possession
Persons 18 years old or older may operate a personal watercraft without education or supervision requirements.

Replacement cards are handled by the state of Utah.
Students who need a replacement card should contact the state for assistance.
